      Vanity’s Vibrator

One of the hallmarks of the Vanity 6 album was the humorous skit during “If a Girl Answers (Don’t Hang Up),” and Prince decided to continue in that direction with a song called “Vibrator,” which was about a vibrating personal massager. The lyrics repeatedly explained that her lover’s services were no longer necessary because her vibrator “makes me feel so good.”

“Oh my God. (laughs) It was definitely for the second Vanity 6 album,” recalls Brenda Bennett upon hearing the track again. “You can hear in her performance that she had really improved, but as far as I could tell, there was no way he would release it… and he hasn’t! That is Jill and Vanity at the end of the song.”

“They went in the studio and I think Susan [Moonsie] was there, and I remember just laughing,” recalls Jill Jones. “How crazy is that? I had forgotten about that. That was when we were all getting along! That was at Prince’s house in Minneapolis. It was right before the Purple Rain stuff started going, because [Vanity] hadn’t left yet. We were all in the studio together, and it was easy to work because you could do your part and then go upstairs and make tea.”

Prince once again played a similar character as he had on “If a Girl Answers” during the four-minute comedic section, which concludes with Vanity achieving an orgasm at the end of the song. Jones recalls her reaction when that section was taped: “After I recorded my part I ended up leaving the studio and went upstairs, and she (Vanity) went down there and then that thing just (makes loud grinding noise). As I remembered it was like a lawn mower (laughs) and she alluded [to me] that they did this experimentation thing. Anything for art! I was watching TV and it was really loud and it didn’t take a genius! There were a lot of things that went on like that in the studio for sure. For sure!”

Vibrator remained unreleased but Vanity’s moaning was used on the song “Orgasm” for Prince’s Come album (1994) as well on “7” from the Madhouse album 8 (1987), and on “21” from the unreleased Madhouse album 24 (1994). Prince must’ve loved Vanity’s moaning!! LOL

OMG I didn’t know that he used her moaning so often…although I knew about “Orgasm”, but I haven’t been able to hear any of the Madhouse albums yet!:(

Regardless of what you share, there will always be someone that will have a problem. If it’s not a family member, why worry about offending someone? I would never post naked photos of Denise but talking about anything that happened in her past, I think, is important to discuss as a lot of the events that transpired led to her becoming a devout christian. She said if talking about her past brings people to Jesus she would–even though she was done with that life and the name. In other words, I wouldn’t worry.
